![]() You can see it’s been brushed and although you can still see the colour blocks, the paper is now a greyed mass rather than bright colours on off-white paper. Here’s a piece of recycled UART paper. I’d used it for colour swatching demos. I tend to use the first option most often. You can liquify the pastel by applying clear gesso (like Liquitex Clear gesso) which will dry clear and also add some tooth.I like to use old and worn paintbrushes as the sanded paper won’t be kind to the brush! Outside, gently brush off the pastel with a stiff brush.The first thing you want to do is to remove as much of the pastel from the paper as you can. Or maybe you’ve been working on some of your own testing and exercises and would now like to reuse the paper. Or perhaps you’ve used it for a workshop and wish you could have a do-over. I get it! And that’s one of the reasons I recommend UART paper as it’s immensely reusable! It’s easy to recycle UART paper if a painting doesn’t live up to your standards. We do recommend to frame your painting with a spacer between your artwork and the glass.I’ve had students complain about the price of good pastel paper. The sanded surface allows for maximum “absorption” and leaves very minimum material waste. HOW DO I MOUNT UART SANDED PAPER?Īny grade and size of UART paper can be purchased pre-mounted on illustration board at a price that’s competitive with any other professionally-mounted pieces. Whatever paper grade you choose, you can trust that UART sanded art paper will complement your inspiration and maintain your work’s integrity in the long run. We suggest our lower grades (240-320) for artists who like to layer and higher grades (400-800) for those whose work is more delicate. Once you begin to paint with UART, you can determine if you require a rougher or finer tooth to fit your style, medium and technique. We recommend our 400 grade – a favorite of artists and an art paper of moderate tooth. To protect the paper, cover it with kraft paper or any covering material and place heavy objects on top such as large books, weights, bricks, etc… to keep the paper for curling back.ģ. To eliminate any curling issues, we recommend that you dry mount our paper prior to painting or drawing on a rigid surface such as foam core or gatorboard. High humidity in the bonding (resin) will force the paper to curl upwards (grit side up) while low humidity will push the paper to curl downwards. This high-quality pastel paper is engineered to eliminate a high percentage of lignin and neutralized to. Optimum storing conditions are 35% to 50% RH at a temperature range of 60F to 80F. UArt Sanded Pastel Paper is pH neutral and acid-free. Relative humidity (RH) is a very important factor in the storage of our sanded papers. Unfortunately, curling is a natural occurrence in sandpaper and is by no means not a defect of the paper. UART DARK - Uart now offers a DARK (nearly black) version of their highly regarded pastel paper. Good results have also been achieved using other mediums for wash techniques. It readily accepts multiple applications of soft and hard pastels, as well as watercolor, alcohol and oil washes. UART original in the sand color is available in six grades ranging from 280 grit (coarse) to 800 grit (finest) for a super fine detail pastel surface.
